Hilmi’s, A Lemonade Story

Hilmi’s House of Lemonade began with three successful sisters from the fourth generation of the Hilmi family, determined to share their special lemonade with the world. They elevated their family tradition by opening Hilmi’s House of Lemonade in Batroun, offering a unique experience with their signature lemonade available in 13 different flavors, along with ice creams and desserts.

The Hilmi family has been associated with lemonade making since 1888, when the sisters’ great-grandfather started the first lemonade business in Batroun.

Batroun, rich with lemon and orange trees, provided the perfect setting for his venture.

In the Batroun souks, he served lemonade, ice cream, and sahlab, establishing a tradition that would be cherished for generations.

Patriarch Howayek was a notable admirer, always insisting on drinking Hilmi’s lemonade during his visits to northern Lebanon. This tradition continued when their grandfather Hilmi opened “Chez Hilmi” in 1962.

This establishment was ahead of its time, offering cakes, ice cream, Arabic sweets, lemonade, and cold sandwiches. Chez Hilmi quickly became a renowned destination, attracting visitors and notable figures from various cities.

Hilmi’s excellence in lemonade making was nationally recognized when they were awarded the National Cedar Medal.

Today, Hilmi’s House of Lemonade not only continues to delight with its flavors but also features the world’s only lemonade museum, displaying the ancestral utensils used in their lemonade-making process.

Known worldwide, Hilmi’s remains a symbol of Batroun’s rich heritage and the enduring legacy of the Hilmi family’s dedication to exceptional lemonade.
